Hop Along With the Battle of the Bulge #1

me smalleEach week through the end of the holiday season, Betty from Losing My Gut While Gaining My INSANITY and NCSue from In Him We Live & Move & Have Our Being will be teaming up to bring you a great blog hop!

This is an opportunity for all of us to share healthy recipes and strategies for avoiding weight gain over the holidays. Think of all the tempting treats you’ll be seeing over the between now and January 2, 2014! But with a little help from our bloggy friends, we can find ways to make the holiday season a healthy one!

Betty & NCSue will take turns sharing some healthy tips or some tasty but healthy recipes each week, and we’ll be featuring someone who shared in the previous linky. Today, we’ll start off by featuring something we loved last week… this recipe for apple fennel slaw with ginger vinaigrette from Lydia’s Flexitarian Kitchen. Check this mouthwatering photo, and follow the link to Lydia’s place for the recipe!

This week, NCSue is sharing a great FREE web resource. With Spark People, you can find tons of useful stuff. You can set goals and track your progress. If you’d like, Spark People will set up a diet plan for you, or you can enter the foods you eat through the day, then generate a report which will let you know what your intake was that day: calories, carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, etc. You can also track your exercise and, if you want to shake up your routine, there are free exercise videos as well. There are articles about common health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and arthritis; this information will help you learn to use nutrition and exercise to help live a healthier life even in the midst of such medical conditions. There are free recipes or, if you prefer, you can enter the ingredients of your favorite recipes and find out their nutritional content.

I’ve been using the tools on Spark People since 2011, and I continue to learn! Join me there!

Weekly Weigh-In and Working Out

Exercise 300x269

I have had another good week!  Yes!  I dropped a whole pound this week!  I keep feeling like my weight loss is so slow, but it has been steady.

I think my weight loss has continued at this rate because I have added exercise.  I am going to the gym and using weight machines.  I usually walk 1 mile on the treadmill.  In addition, I have been walking with friends at the park.  I walked 3 miles at the park in the evening after my complete gym workout in the morning.  I am not sure that exercise is so important in weight loss, but it does keep you busy and allows less time for eating.
